Garden Trains?
Barbara Blossom Ashmun said “Some people like to fish just to be out on the water and unwind. For me, gardening is a chance to be out in the sun, the drizzle, the breeze, and just be. No thoughts, no worries, no plans, no regrets”. (Get into garden zone and chill out)
I must admit that I like gardening because it allows me to commune with nature. I like talking to our tomato plants, and fruit trees, and feeling grateful for the food they yield.
A recent survey in the UK reports that women admit to loving gardening more than men and that men liked to pretend that they would not be in the garden if the barbecue wasn’t there! I am not surprised. The European male seems to prefer to edge his way into gardening -growing flowers and vegetables- by using something else as an excuse to be in the garden. That something else should not be directly related to gardening, but it might become related to gardening!
In the United States that “something else” is here! It is the perfect answer to having an excuse to being out in the garden, but not being too obviously involved in it-Garden Trains. One of my friends has one. Garden trains are large G-scale model trains about 5 inches high and 25 inches long, but instead of running inside, the trains can wind through backyard forests of vegetable plants, around miniature mountain ranges, (piles of desert rocks), and through the tomato vines and back to Main Street Station platform (An antique bird cage used to support vines!). Building a garden railroad sounds like a lot of hard work to me, just to avoid admitting “I love growing food in my garden, and I love gardening”. What do you think?
